Wildlife Parks in Cairns, Kuranda and Port Douglas

Rainforestation Nature Park is spread over 100 acres of World Heritage Rainforest, situated just 30 minutes by coach from Cairns and 5 minutes from the Kuranda Village.

Ride through the tropical rainforest park on amphibious Army Duck Tours while an experienced park guide explains the vast array of tropical plant life and wildlife.

Take an Aboriginal Dreamtime Walk with the Pamagirri guides, watch spear-throwing, throw a boomerang and play the didgeridoo. Learn about Aboriginal culture, and see demonstrations in the traditional dwellings of the Pamagirri Cultural Centre, and watch traditional Dance shows in the picturesque Rainforest Amphitheatre.

Trained Wildlife Keepers take visitors through the Nature Park via elevated boardwalks that allow close-up views of unique Australian animals, including crocodiles, dingoes, wombats, the cassowary, lizards and snakes, and grassy areas to feed the kangaroos and wallabies.                                                                                                                

Cairns Wildlife Dome is your spectacular all-weather tropical zoo in the city. This Cairns Park encased by a 20-metre high glass dome on the rooftop of the prominent Reef Hotel Casino, is right in the heart of Cairns. Get up close to cute rainforest wallabies as they roam freely through the Zoo. Observe curlews, frogmouths and kookaburras along with other animals such as frogs, turtles, pythons, freshwater crocodiles, lizards and adorable bettongs. Come face-to-face with Goliath, a huge saltwater crocodile, in a unique underwater viewing tank.

Experienced Guides provide free Guided Tours, Shows & Presentations throughout the park, providing a fun and interactive learning experience, and superb wildlife photo opportunities.

The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is the largest butterfly flight aviary and exhibit in Australia - a quality wildlife experience right in the heart of Kuranda Village. This unique all-weather attraction is home to over 1500 magnificent local rainforest species of tropical butterflies, and are all hand reared on the premises. Complimentary Guided Tours take place regularly throughout the day where you can see the local electric blue Ulysses and the majestic green and yellow Cairns Birdwing butterflies.

A Behind The Scenes Laboratory Tour is included with the park entry. This provides an opportunity to view first hand the breeding laboratory, which houses up to 4,000 caterpillars, through special viewing window. To continuously stock the Butterfly Sanctuary, the laboratory staff collect and sterilise eggs and raise the caterpillars right through to the chrysalis stage.
