TROPIC WINGS LAUNCHES COACH DRIVING SCHOOL

WEDNESDAY 28TH FEBRUARY 2008

Cairns’ leading coach tour operator, Tropic Wings, is launching a new coach driving school to address the shortage of qualified coach drivers in the region.

Training is scheduled to commence in May 2008, and will run periodically throughout the year.

Tropic Wings Staff Excellence Manager Susan Benham said the coach industry across the Tropical North will benefit from the new school.

“A major skill shortage has resulted in there being fewer professional coach drivers in the region, and it is hoped this initiative will go a long way in addressing this situation,” she said.

“Applicants will not only learn how to drive a Coach, but also how to conduct commentary, vehicle safety checks and other skills ensuring they become a professional, quality Coach Captain, with a strong possibility of work at the end.”

The school will be lead by Tropic Wings Operations Manager Dave McLean and Quality Control Officer Graham Bedwell, both fully accredited driving instructors with over 40 years driving experience between them.

Interviews with interested applicants will be conducted through February and March. The training will run at a minimal cost with limited positions available. All applicants must have a clean driving record and be able to obtain a Drivers Authorisation.
